Reading widely and traveling extensively can increase one's ability to understand and solve problems. The unity of knowledge and action broadens one's horizons and deepens one's insights; otherwise, one will be like a frog in a well, ignorant and narrow-minded.
For those who receive this verse, one needs to solve two major problems in life: knowledge and insight. The ancients said, "Reading brings benefit"; reading can enrich one's mind. The ancients had a tradition of traveling to study; traveling can broaden one's experience and improve one's understanding. If one does not read or travel widely, how can one achieve great things?
